Christmas Eve — especially the first one they really remember — is one of the biggest nights of a childhood. It's magical, it's a little overwhelming, sometimes it's a little scary. Whatever it is for your kid this year, it's worth marking properly.
We've gathered a variety of tips, message examples, and even the words some parents use for “the talk” — for when your child is finally ready to know the truth about the tradition you've kept alive for so long.

A few gentle tips
You'll want this card in the keepsake box forever. Choose a First Christmas message and record something in your own voice — even a few words. Years from now, they'll press that button and hear you exactly the way you sounded the year they were brand new.
If your child gets anxious about Santa coming down the chimney at night, a gentle reassuring message from Santa himself — telling them he's kind, quiet, and only brings good things — can settle that specific fear in one bedtime.
You know your child best. Mix and match phrases from different messages, or add a personal detail — the name of the elf on the shelf, an inside joke, something from Christmas last year — to make it feel like it could only have been written for them.

For the day they ask
At some point your child will be old enough to wonder — and eventually to know. When that day comes, you might not have the words ready. Here's a starting point.
